ACT CHAPTER EVENT #3 2022

ST THOMAS AQUINAS PRIMARY SCHOOL

What does ‘Reggio-inspired’ really mean?

A look at the principles in the context of early childhood environments and

natural playscapes.

This event will explore the Reggio Emilia philosophy and how it has informed the design of St Thomas Aquinas’ recently completed Early Learning Centre and surrounding natural playscapes.

Together we will visit the new Early Learning Centre, a purpose-built two classroom facility designed in collaboration with CCJ Architects. The site tour will also offer an opportunity to see and learn about the freshly established outdoor naturescape designed by Paul Barnett Design Group.

Following the tour, we will enjoy some drinks and a bite to eat, while our speakers join us for an informal Q&A session to discuss in more detail the collaborative design process and a number of the event themes. If you have a burning question regarding the Reggio Emilia philosophy, the design of natural playscapes or the school design process more generally, we encourage you to forward these to our Chapter Chair at act@a4le.org.au prior to the event.

SPEAKERS:

Leah Taylor, Principal, St Thomas Aquinas Primary School
Carla Drayton, ELC Director, St Thomas Aquinas Primary School
Vahan Hekimian, Architect, CCJ Architects
Paul Barnett, Landscape Design, Paul Barnett Design Group

We aim to ensure our events are always thought-provoking. To help those of you that want to delve further into the ideas and concepts we discuss, we will circulate some additional resources and research to all attendees after the event.
