Site Visit

Join us as we visit the Dominic College Kindergarten to Year 2 project on 9th November at 4:00 pm!

LIMINAL’s latest collaborative project with Dominic College acknowledges the way children play, explore and question are fundamental to their cognitive development. It offers fun, adventure-style learning spaces while offering versatility to support different, creative ways of teaching and engaging. Inspired by the Reggio Emilio play-guided and inquiry-based approach to learning, the precinct supports contemporary approaches to early learning.

The siting and layout of the school environment has grown out of its context and is inspired by the palawa kani animal names used for the children’s year groups. Influenced by the First Tasmanians and their cultural connection to place, metaphorical reference is made to the use of possum skin cloaks used to carry their young. The idea of ‘cloaking’ as a way of nurturing and protecting has inspired the ‘knitting’ together of the buildings, emulating the stitching together of possum skins as the child develops and grows, with the roof forms suggesting an undulating patchwork providing protection and intimacy.

The forms resonate with the protective ‘wrapped in country’ symbolism that possum skins traditionally provided, ensuring the new building has been shaped by the school community and its natural environment.

Join us for a tour of the facilities and discussions with key stakeholders. We'd love to see you there, register now!
