Te Kura o Tawatawa - Ridgway School creates new relationships between exterior and interior spaces in a meaningful making of place.

The transformation of Te Kura o Tawatawa, Ridgway School, creates a bright, functional, 2-storey structure fit to house the entire school roll.
The new proposal focused on maximising the modest outdoor space that was available, while allowing the existing school building to remain functional throughout construction. The solution is a 2-storey volume with a multipurpose space at its heart.
The new outdoor space has been thoroughly reworked. Outdoor pavilion structures have been established to provide shaded zones in the playground, and a barbeque has been incorporated to facilitate community use. Native planting is significant to Ridgway School, reflected in the Tawa trees throughout the site.
Claire Gesterkamp, Architect from DGSE and Te Kura o Tawatawa - Ridgway School Principal - Kathryn Smith will present the journey to realising this exciting structure which created meaningful placemaking for the school community.
