WEBINAR | Progressing or Guessing: Design as a strategy for optimism in complexity - Anne Knock

LEA's Annual General Meeting will be followed by a presentation by researcher Anne Knock, exploring design as a strategy for optimism in complexity. Members and guests welcome.

Each of us spend the day consciously and unconsciously solving problems. Up until recently, we could travel through life with a reasonable degree of predictability and certainty, confident of reaching the desired outcome.

Today, we are increasingly faced with a barrage of complex problems. These are ones with multiple mitigating variables, multiple plausible options, and multiple consequential outcomes.

-           Returning to working and learning, onsite or not

-           Offering a hybrid approach

-           Designing for indoor, outdoor or both

Masks, vaccinations, ventilation, the list feels endless. How can we progress in uncertainty without feeling like we’re merely guessing our way through? Design is not only a process to apply but also a mindset to adopt.

Anne Knock has dived deeply into complexity theory as she completes her PhD thesis. She will unpack the opportunities that complexity presents to reframe a way ahead with optimism.
