ACT CHAPTER ONLINE PRESENTATION:

INTERFACE CPD PRESENTATION – DESIGNING WITH CLIMATE IN MIND

Interface are offering the Learning Environments ACT community the opportunity to join Aidan Mullan, Sustainability Manager ANZ at Interface for a 1 Formal CPD point presentation. In this session Aidan will explain embodied carbon in relation to the built environment, how it is impacting climate and what can be done to reverse negative impacts.

The global Climate Emergency is the greatest threat to human health and the building and construction industry accounts for 39% of all global carbon emissions. Architects have the power to make real positive impact through design excellence, careful material selection and the collective will to make it happen.

If you are part of Green Building Council of Australia’s CPD program, this course can be claimed for 1 Sustainable Development point via GBCA’s website.

The presentation learning outcomes are covered below.

  • Explain how the built environment contributes to global warming.
  • Define the terms whole life carbon, embodied carbon and operational carbon.
  • List the critical issues/points with respect to materials selection and embodied carbon.
  • Understand how to read an Environmental  Product Declaration and how Life Cycle Assessment tools aid reductions in embodied carbon.
  • Explain carbon offsetting and how it is used to achieve net zero goals
  • Establish your practice position on climate and carbon
  • Explore your client's perspectives on climate and carbon.
