NZ Chapter - Site visit: The Gardens School, Manurewa

  • 21 March 2019
  • 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM (NZDT)
  • The Gardens School, 101 Charles Provost Drive Auckland 2105

Join us to hear Principal Susannah Fowler and Tim Horne for the Architects MOAA discuss the demanding process of the rebuild of The Gardens School in Manurewa. The team worked together closely with the Ministry of Education to shape the dream of imagining and realising a school for future learning.

The existing “leaky syndrome” buildings of the school were demolished, with 600 students being moved into the 27 relocatable spaces which made up the temporary school.

The rebuild process took close to 3 years.

In late December 2017 the new school was occupied by (in the words of Susannah) “our people”.

Hear how the team retained and supported staff “taking them from being excellent single cell practitioners into a fully collaborative teaching environment.”

The presentation will be followed by an open discussion and a tour of the grounds and buildings.

The Gardens School received a commendation in the LENZ Awards 2018.

Registered architects can apply for 20 CPD points for attending this event - (50% design, 25% project management, 25% core professional development).
