Speakers:

Lori Mravicich and Jacque Allen will present the LEA Mayfield Project – JEDI Tools workshop.

How can authentic listening help support designing learning spaces for all?

The 2023 Mayfield Project topic was JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) and the project team explored ways to engage all stakeholders to incorporate JEDI practices in the design process of learning environments. The result of the project is the Authentic Listening Toolkit, a free downloadable resource for designers and educators.

November’s LENZ Auckland event will give you an insight into the Mayfield Project’s outcome with an interactive workshop using the Authentic Listening Toolkit. The toolkit focuses on gathering voice from learners, educators and designers to provide a way for stakeholders' voices to be heard when designing learning environments that promote JEDI.

Project showcases:

Matt Every from ASC Architects will present the Paerata Primary School Project.

Paerata School is a brand-new state of the art primary school facility located in the developing Auckland suburb of Paerata Rise, provided to replace the existing and outdated Paerata School facilities located at another nearby site.

Diversity in all forms is increasing in New Zealand communities, and so is the need for higher-order skills such as problem-solving, collaboration, creativity and working with new information. This diversity in learning is likely to increase over time as education keeps pace with changes taking place in Aotearoa. The learning spaces were also designed to maximise connection to the exterior learning central courtyard at the heart of the school.

Adam Dwen from RTA Architects will be presenting the Owairoa School Project.

This design response provides a new teaching facility that balances the aspirations of the MoE brief for designing quality learning spaces and the strong pedagogical drivers outlined by the Owairoa’s senior leadership team. It integrates and enhances the connectivity and built fabric of the campus, maximises a previously under utilised area of the existing site and reflects the school’s identity and values as a significant contribution to the students and school community alike.
