About the school STEM program:
Brookman takes a whole school approach to STEM education, embedding skills across learning areas. In developing the school's latest Business Plan, Hans Geers (School Principal) felt it was time for the school to accept new challenges and sought an opportunity to better prepare students for the future.
Since 2016 the Leadership Group has mentored school teams in working with the Innovation Unit and the Department of Education Statewide Services to introduce and finally embed, STEM practices into cross-curricular teaching and learning practices from Kindergarten to Year 6.
Brookman is now acknowledged as a leader in this field through its role as a Teacher Development School (TDS) in STEM, providing high-level professional development to teachers across the state, interstate, and internationally. Recently being inducted into the Governor's Hall of Fame in STEM Leadership has been a further acknowledgment of the school's advancements in this area.
Brookman PS staff understand the need to prepare students with the 21st Century skills including Foundational Literacies: (Literacy, Numeracy, Scientific Literacy, ICT Literacy as well as Cultural and Civic skills; Competencies: (Critical Thinking/Problem Solving, Creativity, Communication and Collaboration); and Character Qualities: (Curiosity, Initiative, Persistence/Grit, Adaptability, Leadership, and Social and Cultural Awareness). STEM is the vehicle that is used to engage and motivate students with real-world challenges. There is a focus on making learning fun, relevant, and future-focused.

About the Ashdale STEM Program:
Ashdale Secondary College is recognised as an exemplary school in STEM leadership and innovative teaching practices and won the Governor’s School STEM Award in 2020. Leading by example in all areas of STEM and embedding STEM education is a priority from the earliest years with our four cluster primary schools.
All teachers at ASC are tasked with developing and embedding core STEM skills in their students; critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, innovation, collaboration and communication.
Cross curricular projects and collaboration is encouraged through activities in all learning areas and the development of STEM skills is embedded in our teaching programs. Our initiatives are supported by a range of STEM learning spaces and resources.
