This is Learning Environments Australasia’s 20th Annual Conference and we want you to be part of it! Join us in Christchurch New Zealand, 13 - 15 May 2020.

Registration closed until further notice

Christchurch has been through a huge dramatic transformation in the last decade. The regenerating has taken time, however there has been a huge amount of collective positive energy in all areas across the city, this need and want to take back a city lost by the two significant earthquakes of September 2010 and February 2011 is still strong in our resilient community.

Due to these two events it has meant that many of the learning environments not only needed re-shaping and strengthening but a total rebuild in many cases.

At the re:Activate generating a city of learning conference we know we will be able to showcase a vast array of learning environments from early childhood, primary and secondary schools to universities, as well as the urban fabric required to re:Activate a city.

Much of the work completed to regenerate Christchurch has been done with authentic consultation with the local Iwi, (the Māori people of the region). It is this engagement that has resulted in learning environments that are rich with cultural narrative in the design, designs that reflect who we are as a people.

As part of the process in designing the 2020 conference we have brought onboard local Iwi to assist us to create an experience for you that is as rich as it is diverse, to reflect the people who call Otautahi, Christchurch home.

It is this collaborative process that resulted in LEA being gifted a whakatauki (a Māori proverb) that speaks to the themes of connecting, designing and developing to generate a city of learning.

New Zealand is proud of its heritage and our unique identity, these two aspects are embodied in our learning spaces, who we are in relation to the land and the people who are the kaitiaki, the guardians of Christchurch.

In partnership with the re:Activate conference, the Learning Environments New Zealand Chapter is pleased to announce an additional opportunity for delegates to attend a separate day in Queenstown - 11 May. This day will be filled with new learning environments as well as a lunch at one of the famous wineries in the region. As with the re:Activate conference there are limited spaces for this one day tour, we recommend you get in quick.
