NZ Chapter - Heritage Meets Innovation, Wellington East Girls' College

  • 18 June 2019
  • 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM (NZST)
  • Wellington East Girls' College Austin Street Wellington, Wellington 6011

The 8 year transformation of Wellington East from earthquake prone heritage buildings to modern learning environments has been a significant journey for both the College and the design team.

Come and hear how they worked together to weave a new educational pedagogy for a culturally diverse community and overcome significant technical building challenges to successfully re-imagine a wide range of innovative general and specialist learning environments.

The scale and complexity of the project makes this easily one of the most important recent secondary school redevelopments in Wellington.

Then take a tour of the newly completed 4-storey heritage-strengthened Main Block, a new school entry and music suite that combine to embrace an activated quad space at the heart of this revitalised school.

Speakers:  Sally Haughton – Wellington East Girls’ College Principal

Bruce Curtain – WSP Opus Architecture

Frances Vessey – WSP Opus Architecture

Refreshments will be provided.
