Join us as we explore some real learnings from real projects.

What the ambitions were.  Significant changes achieved. What was learnt from the process?  Was prototyping useful as part of change? What really needs to change and what can be just adjusted or tweaked.

We will journey through three very different case studies and have the opportunity to explore St Aloysius’ College and their FX Lab as part of this site visit.

In each case we will look from the 3 R’s perspective: Reflection, Relevance & Revolution.

Site Tour, Prototype Space & Masterplan

Kate Quinane, Director Teaching and Learning, SAC + PMDL Architecture

Before embarking on a campus wide masterplan, St Aloysius’ College wanted to create a space to challenge the current teaching practices through a range of different learning opportunities as a prototype for project based, collaborative learning.

We will explore the space in comparison to the more traditional learning settings,
as well as review research conducted by The University of Melbourne’s Learning Environments Applied Research Network (LEaRN) on the pedagogical effectiveness of the space and how the lessons learnt have been realised in the Masterplan.

Case Study - St Joseph’s Primary School

LEAF Architecture

Discuss how the re-use of a redundant space can create relevant and considered learning space.

Case Study - UNSW Quadrangle Teaching Precinct

Gardner Wetherill Associates

Reflect on incidental learning spaces and how, lead by the student voice, left over spaces can be transformed.

Grant

We will also be announcing the two winners of the Small numbers, big thinking grant initiative at this event so join us and help congratulate the wimnners before they embark on their journeys.

Parking is restricted in surrounding streets so we recommend that you use public transport for convenience.  Milson Point station is a short walk away.
