FUTURE SCHOOLS SHOULD BE BUILT FOR THE PURPOSE OF ‘LEARNING’ RATHER THAN ‘TEACHING’

A lively contest about the future of our education system where ideologies come head to head!
Join Learning Environments Australasia - Victoria Chapter for our inaugural debate. The evening will be hosted by Maxine McKew and feature an all-star line-up of multi-disciplinary speakers.
Drinks and nibbles will be provided from 5:15pm, prior to the debate commencing at 6pm sharp! The event is being hosted by The University of Melbourne at the award-winning Arts West Building, recipient of the Overall Learning Environments Australasia Award for Excellence in Educational Facilities 2017.
We are delighted to announce our speakers:
Scott Alterator is an academic at La Trobe University. He is an award-winning educator with experience at secondary and tertiary level. His Doctoral research focused on the relationship between the built form and teaching and learning outcomes. He understands that uniting the education and design narrative is essential for success.
Hamish Curry is the Executive Director of the Asia Education Foundation. He has extensive background in leading education and designing learning. Previously based with the international design thinking firm NoTosh. Hamish has also worked as the Education Manager at the State Library of Victoria.
Deborah Cordingley currently works in the Victorian Department of Education; however her passion is promoting and teaching Humanities in the classroom. Deborah is interested in how Humanities’ teachers are valued in the current education space. She is a committee member for Humanities 21, and promotes Philosophy for Children (P4C) globally.
Wayne Hay is a senior project architect at Baldasso Cortese. He has planned, led, and delivered award-winning designs for a range of education projects in the USA, Australia, and New Zealand. Wayne places high importance on research and an inclusive design process to help schools turn their objectives into great designs.
We are also thrilled to have two student debaters joining each team:
Eloisa Moses-McMahon is a year 10 student at Albert Park College. She is the senior environmental leader and ambassador at the college. Eloisa has a strong interest in politics, and is passionate about the environment. She loves public speaking, and is a part of the school’s senior debating team.
Oscar Pearce is a year 10 student at Albert Park College. In 2017 he was awarded the best speaker in the Brighton Region which recognises he achieved the top score in his region for the Junior Debaters Association of Victoria Public Speaking Awards.
