A4LE Wellington invites you for their first event of the 2016- A visit to Massey University Wellington Campus' Library and Te Whare Pukaka by Athfield Architects.

The Library visit offers an opportunity to reflect on the challenges of redeveloping an aging and incoherent space to meet 21st century teaching and learning requirements, with their increased emphasis on collaborative, social learning while still catering for individual, focused study. Bold visual statements and typographic design have been used to create areas that are both stimulating and accommodating to students. Elements of the building and facility design have been deployed as behavioural cues and way finding pointers in order to make the navigation and use of the library and its services as intuitive as possible. The spatial developments have in turn provoked a re-shaping our library service models to better complement user needs.

Te Whare Pūkākā is home for the College of Creative Arts staff at Massey University Wellington. A rapid six month design, build and inhabitation process brought together dispersed faculty staff into one shared space based on the Activity Based Workplace (ABW) model. This model of workplace design provides shared amenities and spaces to use as and when needed.
