Post-Boom! What is the vision for Education?

We have invited four high profile speakers to each give a keynote to WA chapter members and colleagues, followed by a panel discussion and a few drinks at the Art Gallery of WA from 1-5pm.

Proposition:

  • In a post-boom economy, what is the vision for future education directions?
  • Is there a new focus on culture and creatives? The Visual Arts, Design and Performing Arts?
  • Or as proposed by the Federal Department of Education and Training, will there be a focus on STEM : Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths? Or STEAM : Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths?.

Objectives:

  • To hear from a range of educators and futurists about their vision for education looking forward over the next 10 years.
  • To hear from presenters at all levels and all sectors.
  • To discuss new ideas about the direction of our economy and our culture and investigate whether these require new approaches in schools.

Outcomes:

  • Seminar participants may experience a “pivot” in their thinking about post-boom education
  • How will these ideas shape our learning environments?
  • After a decade of building Trade Training Centres on school sites; is there a change in strategy and therefore facilities?
  • To redefine or consider anew…what makes a great school…..in 2016?

The symposium is an opportunity for a high level discussion on the future of education and therefore the future of design of innovative facilities.

Our mission is to facilitate the relationship between Learning and Place.

We invite you to share our mission and contribute to our research and discussion.
