A NEW COLLABORATIVE WORK ENVIRONMENT

A dilapidated storage facility has been given an exciting new life as an energising and innovative workplace for the Department for Education. The brief for the Education Support Hub, from the South Australian Department for Education, presented a challenge to design a dynamic, creative environment that inspires a collaborative approach between different work groups, and is both playful and tranquil.

After engaging key stakeholders, the design team discovered a desire for both a natural and neutral environment, as well as colourful and creative spaces. Materials including recycled painted brickwork, concrete, timber and coarse render serve as natural, tranquil palette for the overarching framework, with pops of the colour coming from the bold and playful colour blocking used within the hidden collaboration pods.
